A dot is OpenAI’s always-on agent in ChatGPT: it has its own cloud computer and browser, and it keeps working between conversations. This guide is for dots in ChatGPT. To run screenRIG from OpenAI’s coding agent in your own terminal, use ChatGPT Codex. Back to Start.
Create your dot
- 01
Open dots in ChatGPT. Create your dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or in ChatGPT on a desktop browser, and follow the introduction. See OpenAI’s Get started with your dot for plans and current availability.
- 02
Keep the logins separate. Your ChatGPT login is separate from your screenRIG account. Your dot never needs your screenRIG password or API tokens.
You reach the same dot in ChatGPT, Slack, or Microsoft Teams, so you can carry on setup wherever you talk to it.
Ask your dot to install screenRIG
Send this in your dot’s conversation:
Install screenrig.ai using the official plugin at https://github.com/screenrig/plugin and help me set up my first screen.Your dot works on its own cloud computer, so you don’t need a terminal. Review any installation or approval request your dot sends. Ask it to confirm the plugin is installed and ready before continuing. If your dot cannot install or run the plugin, a chat response alone does not mean setup is complete — ask what access or capability is missing, or continue with Claude Code or ChatGPT Codex.
Create your screenRIG project
Give your dot your actual contact email and agree on a project name. Your agent runs screenrig agent enroll --email ADDRESS --project-name "Lobby" to create a new project and email you a member invitation. That email is your dashboard login, and nothing waits on it: your agent goes straight on to pairing your screen and making content. Open it whenever you want the dashboard to choose a passkey or password, or sign in with your existing login to add the project. The dashboard shows your projects and lets you switch between them.
To authorize another installation for a project you belong to, use screenrig agent connect and choose the project in the dashboard approval flow. Never paste passwords, invitation links, or API tokens into the conversation. See Project access.
Pair your Player and publish
- 01
Install and launch your Player. On the device driving your screen, open play.screenrig.ai or follow Player downloads & setup. The Player web app (PWA) is the Player. Launch it, send the pairing code it shows to your dot, and keep the web Player in the foreground.
- 02
Describe the result. Tell your dot what to show, which screen to use, and when. If you want it to use a menu spreadsheet or events calendar, identify the source and approve only the access you want it to have.
- 03
Publish and check. Ask your dot to publish, request a screenshot to verify the result, and check the physical screen yourself.
Already have a Player code? You can combine the request:
Use screenrig.ai for my lobby screen. My pairing code is [code]. Create a welcome board using my events calendar. Ask me for anything else you need.
Your dot keeps working between conversations, so you can also ask it to keep the screen current, for example by updating the board when your events calendar changes.
If your dot can’t find your screen, check that the Player is open and showing its pairing code, then send the code again. For account approval or pairing problems, keep working with the same dot rather than creating another account.
