# LG digital signage software for webOS Signage panels

> Canonical HTML: https://screenrig.ai/digital-signage/lg-webos

LG webOS Signage panels on version 6.0 or newer run the screenRIG Player. Install the app once, read the code the panel shows to your AI agent, and the panel plays what you ask for. The app starts at power-on, so a restart brings the screen straight back.

> **You:** The LG panel in the corridor shows a code, ABC 234. Pair it, call it Corridor LG, and put the day's timetable on it.
>
> **Agent:** Paired. Corridor LG is showing the day's timetable, and I checked a screenshot to be sure.

## Which LG panels run it?

LG webOS Signage panels on version 6.0 or newer, with Chromium 79 or newer, run the Player. Panels on webOS Signage 4.x or older run a browser that is older than the Player needs.

## LG signage panel or LG TV?

The webOS packages are for LG's commercial webOS Signage panels. An LG consumer TV is a different product, so for one of those plug in a stick that runs the Player or open the Player web app in the TV's browser. The [smart TV guide](https://screenrig.ai/guides/smart-tv-digital-signage.md) compares the routes. Other commercial displays with a built-in HTML5 browser or URL launcher can open the Player web app directly, as the [Player guide](https://screenrig.ai/docs/players.md#webos) describes.

## Which webOS version is the panel on?

Press Info on the remote. The panel shows its model, its browser version and its connection state. The Player needs webOS Signage 6.0 or newer, with Chromium 79 or newer. A panel on webOS Signage 4.x or older runs a browser that is older than the Player needs.

## Install the app

You download the packages from the [webOS package page](https://screenrig.ai/webos/). There are two, and they are separate apps to the panel, each with its own pairing, so install one of them on a panel. The steps below use the USB route; the [Player guide](https://screenrig.ai/docs/players.md#webos) lists both.

1. Set the panel's date and time and its network first. A wrong clock stops the install with "Unknown error" and stops the secure connection.
2. On a FAT32 USB stick, make a folder named `application` at the root and put `com.lg.app.signage.ipk` in it. Keep the file name.
3. Plug the stick into the panel. In Server Settings, set Application Launch Mode to Local and the type to IPK, then run Local Application Upgrade from USB.
4. Restart the panel. It starts the app and shows a pairing code.
5. Read the code to your agent.

To install from the panel's app menu or from an SI server, use `ScreenRig-webos.ipk` instead.

## It starts with the panel

The app opens the Player at power-on. A panel that starts before its network is ready shows the screenRIG start screen and keeps trying until the Player answers. Once the Player has loaded before, a restart with no network still opens it, and it plays what it saved. Press Info on the remote to see the panel's model, browser version and connection state.

The Player downloads your content once and plays it from the panel's own storage, so video does not buffer and a dropped network does not stop it.

## When the install or the first start goes wrong

| What you see | What to check |
| --- | --- |
| The install stops with Unknown error | The panel's date and time. A wrong clock stops the install and the secure connection. |
| The panel starts and shows the screenRIG start screen for a while | The network was not ready. The screen keeps trying until the Player answers. |
| Two apps appear on the panel | The two packages are separate apps, each with its own pairing. Install one of them. |
| You need the panel's model or connection state | Press Info on the remote. |

## What an LG panel can show

Everything the web Player can: images, video, live streams as HLS, web pages, ready-made apps such as menus, queues and dashboards with live data, and your own apps. A playlist can also carry a soundtrack. Your agent controls what plays. Restarting the panel, its power and its volume stay with the panel's own controls.

> **You:** Put the cafeteria menu on the two LG panels by the serving line, and switch to the dinner menu at 5 pm.
>
> **Agent:** Done. Both panels show the lunch menu now, and the dinner menu takes over at 5 pm. I checked a screenshot of each.

## LG signage questions

### Does LG webOS Signage run screenRIG?

Yes. Panels on webOS Signage 6.0 or newer run the Player, installed from a USB stick, the panel's app menu or an SI server. The app starts at power-on.

### Do I need a media player box behind an LG panel?

No. The Player runs on the panel itself, so there is no box.

### Can I use an LG TV as digital signage?

The webOS packages are made for LG's commercial webOS Signage panels. For an LG consumer TV, plug in a stick that runs the Player, or open the Player web app in the TV's browser.

### Does an LG panel keep playing with no network?

Yes. The Player downloads your content once and plays it from the panel's own storage. Once it has loaded before, a restart with no network still opens it and plays what it saved.

### Can my agent switch the panel off or restart it?

Your agent controls what plays. Restarting the panel, its power and its volume stay with the panel's own controls.

### What does LG signage software cost?

The panels are your cost. screenRIG is free, with unlimited screens. Paid plans add business tools, more people, people to talk to, governance and contract terms. See [pricing](https://screenrig.ai/pricing.md).
